Types of Treads for Exterior Spiral Staircases
Exterior stairs need to be able to withstand more extreme weather conditions. Our exterior stair package includes exterior paint which is basically 3 times the paint and primer that our interior spiral staircases get.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Exterior spiral staircases also need to be more resistant to moisture and the suns UV rays. The treads we offer are similar to what you would use on an exterior deck: wood (redwood or cedar), pressure treated wood or composite (such as Trex Composite for decks). Composite treads are a little more expensive than the wood treads but we can match your deck color. The composite treads are the most durable.
All metal treads come in a couple of options. Expanded metal treads have a diamond shape hole that lets the rain and snow fall through. Snow can build up but when you walk on it you will push the snow through the holes. Tread plate, or checker plate is also used for its durability.
To save money the customer can buy their own composite and install their composite on our frame. We will send a pattern and directions with a drawing showing how to cut and install the composite.
